Stepping onto the Octane carpet…

There comes a time in life when we stop buying cars to impress others.

We start buying them to make our lives easier…

And that’s precisely where the Volvo XC60 really comes into its own.

Because whilst half the market is busy coming up with futuristic designs, giant screens and names that nobody can remember, the Swedes carry on doing what they do best: making smart cars.

This XC60 T6 Plug-In Hybrid is an excellent example of that.

On the outside, it’s understated…

Elegant without being flashy…

It doesn’t scream for attention at traffic lights, nor does it need four chrome exhaust tips to prove anything.

But beneath this civilised exterior lies a powertrain capable of surprising many people.

The petrol engine works in tandem with the electric system to deliver a combined power output of over 300 cv, enabling very impressive performance without the need for constant trips to the petrol station.

It’s one of those cars that can handle the commute between home and work in electric mode during the week and, at the weekend, cross the whole country without any fuss.

And then there’s what Volvos have always done better than almost any other car.

Comfort…

The seats look as though they were designed by someone who actually has a back.

The driving position is excellent, the soundproofing remains second to none, and the sense of quality conveys exactly what a premium family car should convey.

This particular model, from October 2020, has just 83,000 km on the clock and features an elegant, understated and timeless design.

Some cars are built to turn heads…

But there are also cars made for living.

And it’s usually these that end up making the most sense.

Volvo XC60 T6 Plug-In Hybrid.

The car for those who no longer need to prove anything to anyone…
