Stepping onto the Octane’s carpet…
It’s 7.15 am.
He drops the kids off at school, throws two bags into the boot, switches on the air conditioning and drives calmly to the office.
So far, nothing out of the ordinary… it’s everyday life for many Portuguese people.
The small detail is that, beneath your right foot, you have access to a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, 600 cv, quattro all-wheel drive and factory authorisation to reach 305 km/h (authorisation from the factory only, not under Portuguese law...).
And this is precisely where the problem with the Audi RS7 begins.
We know it’s difficult to explain to someone who’s never driven one how it’s possible to combine two such distinct personalities in the same car.
One moment you’re sitting in a comfortable, quiet five-door Sportback, with space for the family, a huge boot, ventilated seats, Bang & Olufsen and practically every piece of technology Audi could fit into a car in 2023.
The next moment, you press the right button, the V8 changes its tone, the Tiptronic senses your intentions, and the 600 cv cease to be just a number on a spec sheet.
They become a matter between you, the accelerator and the current speed limits.
And this particular car wasn’t exactly configured by someone who decided to skimp on the options in the configurator.
Produced in March 2023, it features the iconic Nardo Grey exterior with a Black/Black/Red interior, exactly as specified in the factory configuration.
It was purchased in 2024 by the previous owner from an Audi dealership in Blaufelden, Germany, and subsequently imported and registered in Portugal.
It currently has around 42,000 km on the clock.
On the outside, the Black Styling Package Plus, the gloss black RS elements and the 22-inch Audi Sport wheels give it plenty of presence without turning the car into a Christmas tree.
Inside, we find RS Sport Plus seats in perforated Valcona leather with hexagonal stitching, front ventilation, front and rear heating, Alcantara trim, a panoramic roof, a Head-Up Display, Ambient Lighting Plus and a Bang & Olufsen Premium 3D sound system.
But it is beneath the surface that this specification really begins to stand out from the rest.
It features the RS Dynamic Package Plus, RS carbon-ceramic brakes with red calipers, four-wheel steering, dynamic steering, RS adaptive air suspension, a quattro sports differential and an RS sports exhaust system…
To ‘make matters worse’, the top speed has been raised to 305 km/h.
Then there’s the whole civilised side of things…
HD Matrix LED with Audi Laser Light, 360° cameras, Remote Parking Plus, Adaptive Cruise Control, Audi Pre Sense, lane change assist, Soft Close, Comfort Key, Audi Virtual Cockpit Plus, four-zone automatic climate control, acoustic and tinted windows, amongst many other features.
Wowww… We can’t recall a car with quite so much equipment!
In other words, it’s perfectly possible to convince the family that you’ve bought a spacious, comfortable, safe and extremely capable car for weekend trips.
We’re not going to spoil the story.

Editor’s Note:
Octane accepts no responsibility for family arguments arising from the use of the phrase “it’s just a family car” to justify the purchase of a 600 cv twin-turbo V8 capable of reaching 305 km/h.
Technically, it is a family car…
The 600 cv, the carbon-ceramic brakes and the speed it reaches in just a few metres are merely details you might choose not to mention at home.
