Stepping onto the Octane carpet…
If you’re thinking of buying a Porsche Cayenne, please don’t take offence at what follows…
Not least because we sell plenty of them ourselves.
But there’s a slight problem with good cars: when they’re too good, everyone buys one.
And then that curious thing happens where you arrive at a restaurant, park your car and discover there are three more just like it in the car park.
There’s nothing wrong with that… It’s just… a bit uninspiring.
That’s precisely why we’re presenting an Aston Martin DBX.
And perhaps the best way to explain this car is simply to ask directly: how many DBXs have you seen this week?
Now do the same calculation with the Cayenne… Well…
The Aston Martin DBX is one of those cars you don’t buy because it won a magazine comparison…
You don’t buy it because it has the biggest boot…
Nor because the monthly payment is fifty euros cheaper…
Anyone who buys a DBX isn’t worrying about P… Power…
They buy it because they want something different!!!
True luxury isn’t about having the best car in its class.
It lies in not having the same car as everyone else.
And this DBX achieves exactly that without forcing the owner to make any sacrifices.
It’s spacious…
It’s comfortable…
It has five doors…
It has the driving position that the market has decided we all need…
And then there’s one detail that helps a great deal: it’s an Aston Martin.
We look ahead and there’s no doubt about it...
The grille could be on a Vantage...
The bonnet looks as though it were designed to conceal an engine twice the size...
The rear end has more curves than you’d reasonably expect on an SUV...
And, unlike many competitors, no one felt the need to put a huge logo on the boot to explain what’s just gone by…
Then there’s the interior, and here too we find a different philosophy.
Whilst some manufacturers seem to be in a race to see how many screens they can fit into a cabin, Aston Martin still believes in something a bit old-fashioned: namely, that luxury is something you can touch.
Leather…
Stitching…
Metal…
Buttons…
Shapes… and materials…
It may not be all that futuristic… but in ten years’ time it probably won’t look like an old iPad stuck to the dashboard either.
This car was first registered in July 2022, and was subsequently imported and registered in Portugal in May 2023, sourced from an official Aston Martin dealership.
And then there’s the engine… V8. 4.0. Twin-turbo (Powered by Mercedes-Benz, for those who don’t know…)
Three words… V8. 4.0. Twin-turbo… which, unfortunately, are starting to need explaining to younger generations.
In a family car, in 2026, it’s marvellous…
Of course, there are more obvious choices.
There are probably more rational choices too.
And that’s exactly why the DBX is interesting.
Because anyone buying an Aston Martin rarely starts the conversation with:
“Which one makes the most sense?”
Instead, they start with:
“Which one do I like?”
And thank goodness for that...
Because if we all bought cars purely with our heads… we’d all be driving the same car.
For every DBX, perhaps a hundred Cayennes pass by…
Not because the Cayenne is better… but because tastes differ…
And some tastes are far less common.

A brief note from the Editor:
Because it’s all down to personal taste… and because, let’s be honest, when someone is looking for a fast, luxurious, comfortable SUV capable of carrying the whole family, there are far more obvious choices.
The Cayenne is probably one of them…
The Range Rover too…
The Bentayga, for those who want to go one step further…
And then there’s the Aston Martin DBX.
The less obvious choice.
And perhaps that’s exactly why we like it so much.
The DBX was born precisely from this difficult challenge: to build an SUV without ceasing to look like an Aston Martin.
And looking at it, you can see they’ve succeeded!!!
